Stuart Green, who finished his first season in charge with a double success, has left the club.
The former Carlisle United, Hull City, Crystal Palace, Wycombe Wanderers and Workington AFC player wanted to spend more time with his family.
“Football has been my life for such a long time, but I am going to have to stand back for a while," 36-year-old Green, who started his career at Newcastle United, told the News & Star.
After only one season in charge, Green led Celtic to second place in the Wearside League, losing out by a point to Redcar Athletic.
And although Redcar were promoted to the Northern League, the FA National League`s re-organisation meant that Celtic went up as well to Division One North of the Hallmark Security League.
To replace Green, Cleator Moor Celtic have turned to one of their former players in John George, a popular centre-half with Workington and Celtic, who finished his career at Kendal Town.
George had been assistant-manager with Whitehaven Amateurs when they won the Wearside League and Monkwearmouth Cup in the same campaign.
Maryport-based George said: “I’ve had a bit of a break from football, but the Celtic job appealed to me.
"I had some good times there as a player and it is a really well-run club.
“The opportunity to manage Celtic in their inaugural season in the North West Counties was too good to miss.
“The club is showing huge ambition both on and off the field and I believe it has every chance of succeeding although that hasn’t, and won’t, happen overnight.
“There is, obviously, a very talented pool of players at the club which I am excited about working with.
"I am sure they are more than capable of holding their own at a higher level”. |
