Bostik League Premier club Merstham have announced that they have appointed Frank Wilson to fill the not inconsiderate shoes of Hayden Bird as their new manager.

Wilson is probably best-known for his spell at Tooting & Mitcham United, before joining Kingstonian as coach towards the end of last season.

Merstham chairman Chris Chapman told https://www.mersthamfc.com:

"As you might expect, we had some very high-quality applicants for the role, and it certainly wasn't an easy decision. But in the end, we all felt Frank would be a very good fit for us.

“As a club, we want someone who embraces our values as a community club and is keen to help develop our successful youth programme. Frank certainly ticked those boxes for us. We also know we needed someone who has managed at this level before and can quickly pull together a first-team squad that will be competitive in a league that is very evenly balanced as we saw last season. We look forward to working closely with Frank as we begin the next phase of our journey."

Wilson said: “I am thrilled to be appointed manager of Merstham. After sitting down with the Board and understanding the club’s objectives, I knew this was a fantastic opportunity at a club that is genuinely part of the community with a great history and proud traditions.

“I can’t wait to meet everyone connected with the club and get pre-season underway at the end of June. The club made great strides under Hayden and I hope to continue where he left off. I’m excited to be part of the next phase of the club’s journey and I’m relishing the challenge of taking Merstham FC forward this season. We are Merstham!”
