Both
midfielders were members of league rivals Wealdstone side that came close to
promotion.
Monakana
was released by Wealdstone at the end of the season and has now signed a one-year
deal with Hamlet.
He
had signed for the Stones from another league rival, Welling United, in March
2018.
He
was a youngster at Arsenal before joining Preston North End first team.
He
made 49 appearances for Preston before joining Brighton. He was loaned out to
the likes of Crawley Town, Mansfield Town, Carlisle United and Bristol Rovers
and to SPL side Aberdeen before a spell in Romania with FC Voluntari and then
moved to Sutton United where he was loaned out to Welling before joining the
Stones.
Smith
arrives with a wealth of experience at National League level and above after
deciding to seek pastures new in the wake of Wealdstone's near miss for
promotion.
He
joined the Stones in November 2018 from National League side Maidenhead United.
The
versatile player became popular with York Road regulars for his tough-tackling
style since signing for the Magpies in November 2015.
He
scored the first of his 8 goals in the Stripes on debut against Bideford,
making 59 starts and appearing on the substitutes bench on a further 79
occasions, including the memorable 3-0 success at Margate which saw Maidenhead
crowned National League South Champions in April 2017.
Much-travelled,
after starting his career with Port Vale, he moved on to have spells with Scottish
side Clyde, Wrexham, York City, Chester FC, Nantwich Town, AFC Telford United,
Chelmsford City and Hayes & Yeading United as well as a host of loans. |
