The 24-year-old has penned
a two-year contract at Roots Hall, with an additional one-year option on top of
that deal, arriving from Evo-Stik Southern League Premier Division South
winners Weymouth.
The former Yeovil Town and
AFC Bournemouth player has hit the headlines over the last two seasons, having
claimed the division's `golden boot` two years running, with 38 and 39 goals
respectively. Add in his 34 assists and Goodship has been directly involved in
114 goals across those two seasons.
During last season,
Goodship also picked up Weymouth's player of the year award, along with the Step
3/4 player of the season award.
And despite playing two
divisions below the main National League division, he was also called up into
the England C squad.
Goodship has consistently
stressed that he dropped down to Weymouth's level to play regular football,
having felt he had been starved of that chance in previous career moves.
He said upon signing for
Southend that he felt that had been good for his confidence, telling https://www.southendunited.co.uk:
"The last two seasons have been really good for me and my confidence
especially because going into every game I felt like I would score if I had the
chance. Hopefully I have the same feeling playing for Southend. Most players in
Non-League will tell you that they are there to try and work their way up the
ladder. I'm lucky enough to have been handed that opportunity and hopefully I
can take that and show there is a good pathway from Non-League to the Football
League. I dropped down the leagues to play week in week out and I feel a much
different player now. I’m ready now to go and prove myself at this level".
