Owen Howe, 25, joins from Southern Division One South neighbours Bristol Manor Farm.
Howe started his career at a young age, making his
Tiverton Town debut at the tender age of 16.
He quickly rose to
first-team status for his goalscoring prowess and the goals flowed freely as
Tivvy won promotion to the Southern Premier Division.
In the autumn of 2017, he
moved to Salisbury FC and played a part as the side won promotion to the
Southern Premier Division South.
In the summer of 2018,
Howe stepped down a division to the Southern Division One South, where he
scored over 20 goals in a prolific campaign for Manor Farm.
Manager
Scott Bartlett told https://www.westonsmareafc.co.uk:
“Owen is a good signing for us, I have spent time with him this week and he is
hungry to come and be part of what we are doing.
“He
has had some well documented disciplinary issues that obviously need addressing
going forward but that’s in the past as far as I am concerned, and I am looking
forward to working with him.
“He
will miss the first seven games of next season which isn’t ideal but taking
that into account I wanted to bring him in, I am sure he will reward us for
that.
“He
is an old-fashioned type centre forward that works his socks off for his team
in every game. If I can curb the other bits, we have a very good player on our
hands that has the potential to move on again.”
Also
joining the Seagulls is another forward, Nick McCootie, who arrives at the
Woodspring Stadium from former National League South rivals Chippenham Town.
McCootie
joined Chippenham on contract terms in January 2018 from Bath City.
He
started his career with Bristol City, being released at the age of 18 and then
going on to feature for Yate Town, Taunton Town and Bridgwater Town, where he
helped the side reach the Southern South & West play-off final in 2010.
After
a spell with Cinderford Town, he went on to enjoy a successful time at Paulton
Rovers, making 99 appearances and scoring 47 goals.
That
attracted Bath City`s attention and he stepped up into the National League
South in September 2014 and went on to play 145 times for the Romans, scoring
34 goals.
Bartlett
added: “Nick is a proven player at this level and the one above and is a clever
signing for us.
“He
is a strong, powerful player who is effective in any attacking position and
will add another dimension to us.
“His
experience and character will be important on and off the pitch”. |
