The 21-year-old midfielder proved a huge hit with the Torquay supporters after joining on loan from SkyBet Championship side Bristol City last season, making 32 appearances and scoring 12 goals, including a hat-trick in the 7-2 home win over Oxford City.

He also provided numerous assists for his team-mates throughout the campaign, as Gary Johnson’s side surged towards the National League South title.

As well as the Gulls, Andrews had a number of other successful loan spells at both Chippenham Town, helping them to promotion, and Bostik League South East side Guernsey FC, for whom he scored 8 goals in 8 games.

After the conclusion of his loan spell on the Channel Island he went straight out to Chippenham and helped to extend the Bluebirds unbeaten run to 23 games and also promotion to the National League South.

Johnson told https://www.torquayunited.com: “It’s a fantastic signing.

“There’s a lot of clubs between Torquay United and Bristol City and Jakes’s chosen to come to us. I’m very happy because he scored a lot of goals, he has a lot of assists, and I know he can do it at the next level.

“Credit to the football club, because it’s the football club that’s won Jake Andrews. The main thing is with Jake is – he likes to enjoy his football. I think he really enjoyed his football this last season, as you could tell by his goal celebrations, and his celebrations after the game against Eastbourne and Hungerford”.
