For Merstham - Now Read Kingstonian!
Hayden Bird, appointed manager of Bostik League Premier club Kingstonian last month, has revealed no less that SIXTEEN signings.

The majority of the new arrivals are players who were with Bird at league rivals Merstham – many featuring in their tremendous Emirates FA Cup run in 2016/17 when they featured live on TV.

 

Right-back Michael Abnett, originally with Crystal Palace, is a pacey right-back who joined Merstham in 2015.

 

After leaving Palace in 2009 he had spells with Mansfield Town, Lewes, Sutton United, Finnish sides Vestri Isafjordur and Vikingur and signed for the Moatsiders from Dulwich Hamlet.

 

Left-back Ben Harrison, 22, played for AFC Wimbledon from the age of 10 and made his debut for the Dons in September 2014 in an EFL Trophy victory over Southend United.

 

He made his League debut and signed his first pro contract the same month, but suffered a serious knee injury, which kept him out of the game for a lengthy spell.

 

He joined Merstham at the start of the 2017/18 season.

 

Central defender Ollie Cook began his career in 2014 at Fulham, before joining the youth set-up at Southampton.

 

He was on loan at Barrow AFC before moving to Merstham in the summer of 2018.

 

His defensive partner Simon Cooper is a former Merstham skipper who returned to the club in November 2016 after a spell with AFC Croydon Athletic.

 

His other previous clubs include Carshalton Athletic and Guildford City.

 

Central midfielder Tom Kavanagh joined Merstham in July 2015 and is valued for range of passing and work rate.

 

His previous clubs include Sutton United, Metropolitan Police, Whitehawk, Dulwich Hamlet and Kingstonian.

 

Another central midfielder to join the K`s is Kenny Beaney as player-coach.

 

He had re-joined Merstham for a second spell in July 2018.

 

He started his career in the Dulwich Hamlet youth team and returned to Champion Hill as a first teamer in 2015.

 

His other previous clubs include Grays Athletic, Thurrock, Sutton United, Carshalton Athletic, Bromley and Aveley.

 

Gus Sow is a central or right-sided midfielder who played a valuable part in Lewes` promotion to the Bostik Premier in 2017.

 

He began his career at Crystal Palace and had loan spells with Finnish side FC Honka as well as Farnborough.

 

He moved to St Albans City and then Dulwich Hamlet before signing for the Rooks in August 2016.

 

He joined Merstham in the summer of 2018.

 

Fabio Saraiva is a 25-year-old left-back or midfielder who returned to Merstham in September 2018 for a fourth spell from Woking.

 

He originally left the Moatsiders in July 2013 for Maidstone United and returned in January 2014.

 

He signed for Woking in the summer of 2016 and returned again, this time on loan, in August 2018.

 

Attacking midfielder Dan Bennett, 30, was Merstham’s top goalscorer and player of the year in 2017/18.

 

He originally signed for the Moatsiders from K`s ahead of the 2016/17 season.

 

Since then he has hopped between Tonbridge Angels, Whyteleafe, and the Moatsiders, and returned for this his third spell with the club in February 2018.

 

His other previous clubs include Farnborough, Chertsey Town and Chesham United.

 

Striker Calum Davies signed for Merstham from Leatherhead in the summer of 2018.

 

The diminutive forward had two spells with the Tanners, separated by a period with Hastings United.

 

Winger Youssef Bamba started his career with AFC Wimbledon.

 

He left the Dons in March 2014 and signed for Farnborough, going on to have spells with Carshalton Athletic and Walton Casuals before signing for Kingstonian for the first time in September 2016.

 

He moved to Merstham in July 2017 and then back to Walton Casuals in November 2017.

 

He moved south to sign for Bostik South East side Hastings United in October 2019 and made 25 appearances and scored 5 goals before re-joining Walton Casuals again in March 2019.

 

Dan Hector is an exciting winger who came through Merstham`s ranks to become a first team regular.

 

He played a part in the Moatsiders` FA Cup run before moving to Bostik South Central side Whyteleafe in the summer of 2018.

 

Attacking midfielder Reece Hall, 27, re-joins K`s after helping Dorking Wanderers to win the Bostik Premier in 2018/19.

 

He had joined Dorking from league rivals Merstham, where he spent more than three seasons, in November 2018.

 

He came through the ranks at Crystal Palace before starting his senior career at Tooting & Mitcham United and going on to play for Redhill, Staines Town and Kingstonian.

 

Goalkeeper Amadou Tangara signed for Dulwich Hamlet in 2018.

 

He spent part of the 2018/19 season on loan at Merstham before returning on a more permanent basis in March 2019.

 

Amongst his other previous clubs are Grays Athletic and North Greenford United.

 

Striker Dan Thompson heads the list of non-former Merstham players to sign for K`s.

 

He joined Dulwich Hamlet from Braintree Town, where he was part of their promotion-winning side of 2017/18, in December 2018.

 

Formerly with Hampton & Richmond Borough, Hayes & Yeading United, Bognor Regis Town, Burgess Hill Town and Tonbridge Angels, the Wandsworth-born forward had trials at Crystal Palace and QPR and earned a one-year scholarship at Portsmouth, which led to a Carling Cup appearance in the 2012/13 season.

 

Jerry Puemo is a versatile defender who joins from Farnborough.

 

He started out in National League club Aldershot Town`s youth team.

 

He signed for Essex Senior Leaguers Clapton in 2016 and then moved north to have trials with Morecambe and turned out for Sandbach United in the North West Counties League.

 

He joined Southern Division One South side Farnborough in 2018/19.

 

From last season's squad, goalkeeper Rob Tolfrey, Sean Clohessy, Leo Chambers, David Fitzpatrick and Dean Inman are the players that will return to pre-season training on Saturday.
