Newly promoted
Penybont have begun their preparations by signing four new players.
Dan
Summerfield, Lewis Baldwin, Matthew Harris, and Nathan Wood have joined the six
players who have checked into the KYMCO Stadium.
Baldwin
joins from former Welsh League Division One rivals Pontypridd Town.
He had
been at Pontypridd since March after joining from Welsh Premier side Carmarthen
Town.
Baldwin
was part of the USW side which won the BUCS National title against Hartpury.
Harris
moves from Evo-Stik Southern League Premier Division South side Merthyr Town.
He
previously had a loan spell with Briton Ferry Llansawel in 2017.
The
30-year-old is an attacking midfielder and began his career with Swansea City.
Summerfield
joins having spent four seasons in the Midlands with clubs like Halesowen Town
and Stratford Town, where he was named player of the season.
Wide
player Wood arrives after making the move from Welsh League side Undy Athletic.
Former
Bangor City forward Alex Darlington and youngster Jake Phillips have signed up
with another newly promoted outfit, Airbus UK Broughton.
Darlington,
30, joins the Wingmakers from Maltese side Mosta, who he joined in January of
this year.
An
experienced player in the Welsh system, he began his career with Wrexham,
however a couple of serious injuries lead to him being released by the Dragons
in 2008.
From
there he joined The New Saints, where he would spend nearly a decade of his
career, winning a host of different trophies in his time at Park Hall.
Wrexham-born
Darlington netted 96 league goals during his spell with the Oswestry outfit.
His association
with the Oswestry side ended in January 2018, when it was announced that he was
to link up with Bangor City.
After a
year with the Nantporth side, he departed to ply his trade abroad with the side
nicknamed Tar-Rotunda.
His team
finished ninth in the 14-team Maltese Premier League, five points above the
relegation zone.
The
forward has previously been capped by the Wales under-23 semi-professional
side.
The
Hollingsworth Group Stadium outfit secured their return to the top-flight after
two seasons in the Cymru Alliance, finishing 18 points clear at the summit.
Defender
Phillips has also joined the club from fellow North Walians Connah’s Quay
Nomads.
The
22-year-old was a member of the Wales C squad that travelled to face England C at
Salford City’s Peninsula Stadium earlier this year and is known for his
dangerous long throws.
Andy Owens
and Jordan Evans have remained in the Welsh Premier by joining Airbus.
Owens
joins having been released by the Connah’s Quay Nomads, whilst Evans joins from
the Cefn Druids.
Former
Fulham player Evans made 24 appearances for the Druids last season, scoring 4
goals.
He also
featured in both legs of the Druids’ narrow Europa League defeat to Lithuanian
side FK Trakai.
Owens had
been at the Nomads for 18 months and was a Welsh Cup winner. During his time at
Deeside, he was on target 9 times last season in 27 appearances.
The
Wingmakers lost five players following their promotion.
Forward
Asa Hamilton to FAW Championship side Rhyl along with Joe Chaplin, who has
moved to Colwyn Bay.
Leo Riley
has moved to Welsh Premier rivals Aberystwyth Town, while Lewis Buckley has
moved to Evo-Stik Northern Premier League Division One North West side Widnes.
Barry
Town United have signed former Football League player Jack Compton.
Compton
joins from Vanarama National League side Chippenham Town.
The
30-year-old is the second summer arrival at the club after the Glamorgan side
signed Carmarthen Town defender Luke Cummings.
The Cardiff-born
winger began his career with Portsmouth as a youth player.
He had
two spells with the South Coast side after signing from Falkirk. Compton later
moved on to Colchester United, Hartlepool United, Yeovil Town and then Newport
County, before dropping into the English non-league with Bath in 2017.
Most of
his playing time in the Football League came with Hartlepool United, where he
made 55 appearances.
He is a
former teammate of former Barry midfielder and now Newport County manager Mike
Flynn.
Compton
made a total of 26 appearances for Chippenham Town last season, helping them to
a 13th placed finish.
Caernarfon
Town have added signed FAW Championship duo Gruff John Jones and Sam Jones.
Both
arrive from Caernarfon’s Gwynedd rivals Bangor City and Porthmadog. Gruff joins
from Porthmadog, whilst Sam Jones is a signing from Bangor.
Gruff
returns to Caernarfon, having spent time as a youth player with the Cofis.
Nineteen-year-old
Jones was prolific at youth level for Bangor, having scored over 40 goals for
the under-19s side. He has since made the step up to the first team.
Mike
Pearson was Caernarfon’s first signing of the summer. He arrived at The Oval
from Llandudno.
Connah’s
Quay Nomads have signed Newtown full-back Callum Roberts.
The Wales
C international joins the Nomads as they prepare for their fourth European
campaign.
The
20-year-old made 22 appearances for Newtown last season.
For his
performances in the Welsh Premier League, Roberts was called up to the Wales C
squad. He came on as a 93rd-minute substitute in Wales’ 2-2 draw with England.
Roberts
was previously on the books of Shrewsbury Town and The New Saints.
Roberts
is the third departure from Latham Park. Forward Luke Boundford left the Mid-Wales
club after eight years of service at the club. In total, he scored 61 goals in
220 games.
Forward
Porya Ahmadi has also left having re-joined Aberystwyth Town. Ahmadi joined the
Robins from the Green & Blacks in January.
Jordan
Lam has returned to Cardiff Metropolitan alongside new signing Male Davies.
Lam, 24,
is back at Cyncoed Campus, having left the Students last summer to join
Hereford and then Bristol Manor Farm.
He is
joined by Mael Davies, who joins from fellow Welsh Premier side Carmarthen
Town.
The pacey
winger was an established member of Cardiff Met’s squad and was a key figure in
their first season in the Welsh Premier.
His
performances earned him a trial period at SkyBet League Two side Newport
County.
Lam has
been training with the Met since February.
Davies
joins the Met having joined Carmarthen Town last season. With one year of top-flight
football under his belt, he has moved to the capital to further his career.
The
20-year-old was on the books of Cardiff City up until Under-16s level. He later
moved on to Swansea’s academy where he spent three years, signing his first
professional contract.
A former
Wales under-17 and under-19 international, Davies is a FAW Youth Cup winner
with Swansea City.
Mael’s
position is predominantly a centre-midfielder, however, he can also play at
right-back.
The Met
have also received a boost that Charlie Corsby is nearing full fitness, having
trained all week. Corsby could be available for the Europa League games.
Carmarthen
Town have signed Welsh League duo Elliot Scotcher and Josh Bull from Cwmbran
Celtic and Haverfordwest County.
Bull and
Scotcher are two of three new signings.
Llanelli
Town’s Chris Jones also joined the Welsh League duo at Richmond Park.
Bull
previously spent a pre-season with Welsh Premier side Aberystwyth Town, before
returning to Cwmbran Celtic later in the summer.
The
25-year-old has had three spells with the Gwent club, having had a brief period
with Merthyr Town.
Bull has
scored over 100 goals for Cwmbran Celtic and finished the 2018/19 season as the
clubs second highest goalscorer, behind Chris Ham.
Midfielder
Scotcher spent last season with Haverfordwest County as they missed out on
promotion to the Welsh Premier.
The
former Lido midfielder made 23 appearances for the Bluebirds last season,
scoring a total of three times.
Cardiff
Met striker Adam Roscrow has signed a two-year deal with SkyBet League One side
AFC Wimbledon.
Roscrow played
for the Archers in Welsh Division Three before their meteoric rise to the JD
Welsh Premier.
Roscrow,
who hails from Llantwit Major, scored both Cardiff Met goals in their Nathaniel
MG Cup victory over Cambrian & Clydach Vale in January, which secured the
club’s first major domestic trophy in their history.
The 24-year-old
also scored a memorable goal for Wales C against England C in Salford in March
which caught the eye of the AFC Wimbledon scouts. |
