Hobson originally joined Stalybridge from Kendal Town in September 2009, scoring his first goal for the club 11 days later in a 5-3 away victory at Alfreton Town, who he would then go on to play for.

During the 2011/12 season, he netted 16 times for Stalybridge and was rewarded with a move to Stockport County in 2012.

He scored 6 goals in 26 appearances for County before leaving in 2013 to join Guiseley AFC.

He then had a two-year spell at Chester FC and since then has played for Altrincham, Aberystwyth Town, Alfreton and Ashton.

Hobson was also a former youth team player at Sheffield United before moving to Kendal, where he scored 26 goals during the 2008/09 season.
