The
35-year-old arrives from former SkyBet League Two rivals Newport County and
signs a one-year deal at Huish Park where he'll balance playing duties and a
first team coaching role.
The midfielder
began his career in 2002 with Gillingham, where he went on to make 176
appearances for the side along with scoring 17 goals.
He then
decided to move over to Peterborough United for two months in 2008/09 where he
then moved for Wrexham until the end of the season.
After
leaving Gillingham at the end of that season, he was signed Brighton & Hove
Albion where he was given the role of captain before their 3-1 win over
Southampton and was later confirmed to be the permanent captain as of January
2010. However, in May 2010, he made a move to Norwich City for the 2010/11
season in two-year deal in which he bagged himself 71 appearances and 8 goals.
When he
then resigned to Brighton in August 2012, he made 77 appearances and also
netted 6 goals for the Seagulls.
He then
moved back to Gillingham for six games towards the end of the 2015/16 season
and left Brighton to join Charlton Athletic at the beginning of the 2016/17
season on a one-year contract, appearing 54 times.
Then he
signed for Scunthorpe United in August 2017 on a one-year contract before
moving to Newport County in June 2018.
He has
been capped 29 times at full international level for Wales as well as 18 times
for the under-19 and under-21 sides.
