.....the resignation of joint-managers Kevin Darch and Dave Griffiths earlier this week.
Harper-Penman begins as manager with immediate effect, and his first game in charge will be on Saturday when Barum travel to Cinderford Town.
Harper-Penman is well known in the town, and among the Barum faithful, he has made 336 appearances for the club during his career as a player, scoring 25 goals.
He made his debut for the club at the age of 16 in an FA Cup tie against Exmouth Town and has also played for Bideford AFC in the Southern League and Appledore in the South West Peninsula League, and on his return to Barnstaple for the 2013/14 season he became club captain.
In 2015 he was entered in to the club’s `hall of fame`, joining the likes of other club legends Dave Blanche, Charlie Hulland and Greame Somerville.
The new manager told https://www.barnstapletownfc.com: “I’m absolutely delighted to be given the chance to manage my home-town club. Obviously, the task ahead will be a tough one, but one I firmly believe we can turn things around. It’s been a club close to me heart for many years and has some great people involved in. I will take great pleasure in working with everyone to push this club forward.
“We have fixtures coming thick and fast over the coming weeks and every fixture is a massive game for us now being in position we are in, and I understand there are no easy games at this level, so Cinderford away will be a tough one on Saturday, and then obviously there is the big Boxing Day derby against Bideford to follow.
“I will look forward to the challenge ahead and we will do our very best to climb the league table from now and to the end of the season.”
One of the new managers` first signings is younger brother Jed.
The 24-year-old winger returns for a fourth spell with Barum, having started at Fairfax Park before joining Plymouth Argyle, where he made a handful of first-team appearances.
In between spells with Barnstaple, he has also served Frome Town and Truro City and re-signs from Toolstation Western League Premier Division side Willand Rovers.
