A round-up of a few of Saturday`s early friendly matches.

Motorama National League teams....


Newcomers Notts County ran out 5-0 winners at BetVictor Northern Premier Division One South East new boys Ilkeston Town.

 

A first half hat-trick from triallist Nathan Tyson was the highlight of the day as the former Magpie ran riot in Derbyshire.

 

Enzio Boldewijn and Kristian Dennis also contributed decent finishes on what was another very productive pre-season outing for the Magpies.

 

Josh Staunton’s early goal gave FC Halifax Town a winning start to their pre-season campaign as they beat Farsley Celtic 1-0.

 

New signing Jack Earing’s corner was met with a powerful close-range header by Staunton to give them an early lead which they held on to.

 

Promoted Woking drew 1-1 with League One Oxford United at Kingfield.

 

Triallist winger Elliott Frear, who was at Motherwell last season, calmly finished to put the visitors in front.

 

Woking equalised through Jake Hyde just before the hour-mark.

 

Chesterfield shared an amazing 4-4 draw at Inkersall Road against Toolstation Northern Counties East League Premier Division side Staveley Miners Welfare.

 

The hosts gave the visitors a helping hand 7 minutes before the break – a cross catching a trailing arm and resulting in a penalty which Liam Mandeville tucked away.

 

Two of Town's academy products combined inside 7 minutes of the restart to double the lead, Luke Rawson showing skill and perseverance on the wing before finding Levi Amantchi, who stroked home.

 

But two goals in 2 minutes brought Staveley right back into it.

 

The first was drilled low to Wallis' right-hand side and the second was a beautiful finish, hammered in off the crossbar after Staveley got in down the right flank.

 

On 67 minutes the comeback was complete, Staveley cutting their visitors apart with a fine move and taking the lead.

 

Amantchi was unlucky not to level for Town with a rasping 25-yard drive, Wright equal to it with an excellent one-handed stop.

 

The stopper also got a hand to a second Chesterfield penalty, won and scored by trialist Dan Bramall, but couldn't keep it out.

 

And when Jack Holmes went down under a challenge in the box on 76 minutes, he too was afforded the chance to get on the scoresheet from 12 yards and he slammed in Town's third spot-kick.

 

Staveley managed to get in on the act with 8 minutes left, earning a penalty of their own after Laurence Maguire got himself in a muddle and put Wallis under pressure with a back pass, the keeper bringing down an attacker and

Thomas Poole made it 4-4 from the spot.

 

Championship side Preston North End secured a 4-0 win at Mill Farm against AFC Fylde.

 

Sean Maguire scored a hat-trick – striking twice in 5 minutes early in the contest and completed his treble after an hour.

 

Billy Bodin was on target with North End's other goal of the afternoon and the visitors could even to afford to miss two penalties - Paul Gallagher and Daniel Johnson seeing their efforts from the spot saved by Dan Lavercombe.

 

Wrexham managed to hold onto Leighton McIntosh’s early strike, survive some heavy pressure from National League North side AFC Telford United and then grab a second goal by Bobby Grant in the last few minutes.

 

Barnet conceded a last-minute goal as they drew to League One side Wycombe Wanderers in their second pre-season friendly.

 

Dan Sparkes second half strike was cancelled out by a late goal from a Wycombe trialist in an entertaining match at The Hive.

 

Bromley secured a 2-0 win at now National League South side Maidstone United at the Gallagher Stadium.

 

The breakthrough came just past the hour-mark Marc-Anthony Okoye to take a touch and smash the ball in the top corner from just inside the six yard box.

 

Korrey Henry managed to get Bromley’s second late on.

 

Promoted Torquay United gained a 3-0 victory over a spirited Buckland Athletic from the Toolstation Western League Premier Division at Homers Heath.

 

After a goalless first hour, United got the goals their possession deserved, courtesy of second half strikes from Kalvin Lumbombo-Kalala, Ben Wynter and Owen Price.

 

Stockport County, also promoted back to non-League football`s top division, proved too strong as National League North side Curzon Ashton fell to a 2-0 defeat at the Tameside Stadium.

 

Two goals from Jake Kirby won it for the Hatters, but Curzon can take encouragement from their defensive resilience and an improved second half showing.

 

Boreham Wood won 3-1 at the Beveree against National League South side Hampton & Richmond Borough.

 

The game had an explosive start as the Wood took the lead in the opening couple of minutes; Sorba Thomas heading home from close range.

 

The lead was short-lived as Hampton got right back into the match before 5 more minutes had passed.

In the final 10 minutes, Wood took advantage of the tiring Hampton side to take the lead. Piero Mingoia found himself in space at the edge of the box before beating sub keeper Andy McCorkall.

 

The visitors concluded the scoring with a couple of minutes left as a triallist turned his defender and fired past McCorkall and into the corner of the net.

 

Ebbsfleet United shared a 2-2 draw with Premier League Tottenham Hotspur`s under-23s at the Kuflink Stadium.

 

There was another goal for Ayo Obileye and a great strike by Aswad Thomas for home fans to enjoy.

 

A Jamie Grimes own goal and Paris Maghoma were the Spurs scorers.

 

 

National League North teams….

 

Alistair Smith hit a late winner to earn League Two side Mansfield Town a 1-0 win at Alfreton Town.

 

Smith hammered into the roof of the net with 8 minutes to go after Mal Benning's perfect cross picked him out.

 

Guiseley AFC were beaten 2-0 at Nethermoor Park by League One Scunthorpe United

 

Lee Novak and John McAtee got the goals, both coming shortly before the interval.

 

Kidderminster Harriers and League One Bristol Rovers shared a 1-1 Aggborough draw.

 

Ashley Chambers' goal put Kidderminster ahead just 10 minutes before the break - latching onto a through ball and lifting a finish over the onrushing keeper.

 

Tom Nichols grabbed the goal to bring the scores level shortly after the break.

 

Newly promoted Kettering Town went down to a 2-1 defeat at Latimer Park to League One side Peterborough United.

 

Strikers Ivan Toney and Mo Eisa grabbed a goal apiece for Posh with Lindon Meikle having equalised.

 

Altrincham were on the wrong end of a 6-0 drubbing by League Two Crewe Alexandra.

 

First half goals from Paul Green, a penalty from Charlie Kirk and one from Perry Ng gave Crewe the cushion of a 3-0 lead.

 

A second half Ollie Finney hat-trick finished off the scoring.

 

Bradford Park Avenue edged out Northern Premier Division One South East side Brighouse Town by the odd goal in five at the Dual Seal Stadium.

 

Avenue opened the scoring after three minutes thanks to Sean Gardner who chipped the keeper from an inch perfect pass from Ben Hedley.

 

It was Hedley who made it 2-0 before a Brighouse triallist halved the deficit.

 

Carl Stewart equalised on 35 minutes for the hosts, who conceded a third to a visiting triallist 3 minutes after the break.

 

 

National League South teams….

 

Championship new boys Charlton Athletic kicked off their traditional friendly curtain-raiser at Welling United with a 2-0 win.

 

A crowd of 2,052 saw the Addicks net twice in the opening 45 minutes through Brendan Sarpong-Wiredu and Abraham Odoh.

 

Relegated Havant & Waterlooville put up a decent showing at Westleigh Park against League One Portsmouth before going down 2-1.

 

Sub Brett Pitman produced a typical piece of poaching 10 minutes from time after decent play from Brandon Haunstrup to edge the Blues home in a competitive afternoon in front of a bumper crowd of 3,500.

 

Gareth Evans’ penalty just before the break was cancelled out by an excellent finish from former Pompey triallist Roarie Deacon 11 minutes after the restart.

 

League Two Stevenage saw two goals ruled out as they drew 0-0 with St Albans City at Clarence Park
