Bentley joined his hometown club Plymouth Argyle as a youngster and made his first team debut, aged 17, as a sub in against Hartlepool United at Home Park in League Two in May 2016 – a 5-0 win.

He also started a Checkatrade Trophy tie away to Swansea City under-23s at the Liberty Stadium that November but was sent-off for a second bookable offence.

He also spent time on loan with Sutton United, making 5 appearances.

But Bentley was in his first year as a professional when he suffered his broken leg in training in January 2018.

He eventually returned to fitness and went on loan to then-National League South side Truro City in October 2018.

However, it soon became clear that all was not well and by March 2019, he was told by a consultant that he would have to give up professional football.

Despite that, he had plenty of offers from other teams this summer and has chosen to play part-time with Tivvy.
