Magnay
joined Hartlepool in the summer of 2015 after starring in Grimsby Town’s run to
the National League Promotion Final in 2014/15.
The
former Chelsea starlet scooped a host of awards at the end of the Mariners’
season as they finished third in the table only to lose out on promotion at
Wembley.
Although
he came through the ranks at Leeds United’s academy, his big break in professional
football came when he earned a contract at Chelsea after winning the second
series of Sky One’s `Football Icon` show in 2007.
The
Gateshead-born man went on to spend five years on the books at Stamford Bridge,
during which time he gained senior experience with loan spells at MK Dons and
Northampton Town while he also appeared for Northern Ireland under-21s in 2009.
A
serious knee injury brought his time with Chelsea to an end, but he fought back
to fitness and won a deal with home-town club Gateshead in January 2012 and he
went on to spend two-and-a-half years with The Tynesiders before moving to
Grimsby.
Magnay,
now 30, made 120 appearances for Pools and recently penned an open letter to fans
declaring his wish to switch to part-time football. |
