The 23-year-old played just 5 minutes of Saturday’s pre-season tournament before sustaining an eye injury. However, he featured prominently and impressed in the first 45 minutes of Tuesday`s 4-1 pre-season friendly victory against Harpenden Town at The County Ground, Letchworth.

Crows` boss Steve Castle has been tracking Bateman for some time and he played a big part in Berkhamsted’s push for promotion last season.

He netted 43 times in 54 appearances for The Comrades last season and, unsurprisingly, his goalscoring exploits attracted interest from several clubs.

Bateman, son of Berko manager Steve, came through the ranks with Kings Langley and then Leverstock Green and had a short spell at Leighton Town before joining Berkhamsted in 2017.
