The 32-year-old has spent pre-season in training with Pools and has been one of the stand-out performers in the five friendlies to date.

Kennedy began his career with Middlesbrough where he emerged from the academy to play a handful of games in the Premier League before establishing himself as one of the most sought-after midfielders in the lower divisions.

A loan move to Darlington in 2008 was turned permanent and he played over 50 games for the Quakers before securing a move to Rochdale where he made another 200 appearances.

Kennedy’s next destination was Bradford City where he spent a couple of seasons before putting down some roots in Carlisle United in 2015.

He became a fans’ favourite in Cumbria and made more than 100 appearances before his departure at the end of last term.
