Southern League Premier Division club AFC Rushden & Diamonds suffered a
heart-breaking defeat in the final of the Northants FC Maunsell Cup at Hayden
Road against League Two neighbours Northampton Town.
Diamonds
were cruelly beaten by a 90th Cobblers winner from Ethan Johnson having
equalised just 6 minutes earlier through Jack Ashton.
The youthful
visiting side had taken a 20th minute lead through Caleb Chuukwemeka.
Weston-super-Mare,
relegated to the Southern League Premier South, retained the Somerset Premier
Cup when they beat new league rivals Taunton Town 2-1 at the Optima Stadium.
Both of
Weston's goals were scored by Sam Hendy in the 30th and 85th minutes.
Rocky
Neal netted a consolation goal for Taunton from the penalty spot in the 89th
minute.
The final
had been held over from last May because of Taunton's involvement in the
Southern League play-offs.
Another
trophy up for grabs on Tuesday night was the Bill Kyte Memorial Cup between Combined
Counties League Division One side Godalming Town and CCL Premier outfit Guildford
City.
City triumphed
3-0 with goals from Benga Ogunseye, Sean Mason and Kieran Campbell.
Peter
Wild`s new National League FC Halifax Town side got one over his former club,
League Two Oldham Athletic, by winning 1-0 at Boundary Park.
Cameron
King's cross was deftly nodded back across goal and in by a Shaymen trialist
less than 2 minutes in.
FC
Halifax`s league rivals Eastleigh lost their final pre-season friendly 1-0 to Premier
League Southampton under-23s at The Silverlake Stadium.
Dan Nlundulu
scored the only goal of the game for the Saints in the first half.
National
League newcomers Woking were beaten 4-2 at Kingfield by a strong League One Portsmouth
side.
A late
Manny Parry goal kept the Cards in the game at the break after Brett Pitman
scored a couple of set-pieces and Oli Hawkins scored a tap-in for Pompey.
Hawkins
grabbed his second from a Pittman cross 7 minutes from time and an 89th
minute Moussa Diarra header from a Max Kretzschmar corner made it 2-4.
National
League North club Chester FC suffered a disappointing defeat as they were beaten
4-1 by FC United of Manchester at Broadhurst Park.
FC United
took the lead on 10 minutes when Charlie Ennis curled a superb free-kick beyond
Chester keeper Russ Griffiths from 20 yards.
That
advantage was doubled 6 minutes later when Michael Donohue stabbed the ball
home from close range.
The Red
Rebels went three-up when Ennis's well-struck shot hit Gary Roberts on the
chest and flew beyond Griffths.
Chester grabbed
a goal back from a swift counter attack as Matty Hughes played in Jamie Morgan
who made it 3-1.
But any
hopes of a fightback were quashed on 63 minutes when Chris Doyle headed home at
the far post.

Northern Premier League Premier Division club Matlock Town were beaten 3-0 by Premier
League newcomers Sheffield United, who fielded a strong team.
Leon Clarke
scored twice in the first half and Kean Bryan added a third for the Blades.

league rivals Hyde United overcame a youthful League One Rochdale side at Ewen
Fields.

Tongue bagged a first half brace for the Tigers, with Jack Dyche heading home at

Division Central side Royston Town 3-1.

Division One North West outfit Trafford and completed their pre-season with a

league rivals York City were given a scare by Trafford`s league rivals
Pickering Town before eventually coming out on top 4-2.
The Pikes
went into half-time with a 2-0 lead thanks to Issy Pearson and Mikey

But York
staged a comeback in the second half with three goals in the 11 minutes
following the restart from Wes York, Liam Smith and Macaulay Langstaff before a
second from Smith on 71 minutes.
National
League North new boys King`s Lynn Town shared an entertaining 3-3 draw with Championship
side Charlton Athletic`s under-23s at The Walks.
The
Valiants raced into a 2-0 lead with goals from James Vennings from the spot and
Kareem Isiaka 2 minutes later.
Lynn got
back into the game on 24 minutes when Michael Clunan was fouled in the area, Sam
Kelly stepping up to convert from the spot.
Ryan
Hawkins made it 2-2 on 38 minutes and Aaron Jones headed Lynn ahead soon after
the hour-mark before Isiaka got his second of the game to square it.
Lynn`s
new league rivals Darlington came back from being 2-0 down at Ebac Northern
League Second Division side Esh Winning to win 3-2.

for Darlington were Brandon Morrison, Justin Donawa and Louis Hoare.
Dan
Mooney scored the only goal of the evening at Hurst Cross to see League One
Fleetwood Town win against NPL Premier Division Ashton United.
Southern
League Division One South club Cirencester Town comfortably saw off League Two
neighbours Forest Green Rovers` under-18 side 6-2 at the Corinium Stadium.
Hereford
FC`s Liam Bishop was on target twice for the Centurians, who hope to obtain the
youngster on loan.
Their
other goals came from a first half brace from summer signing Josh Parsons, Jack
Freeman and Tommy Ouldridge.

League North club Bradford Park Avenue shared a 2-2 draw at the Horsfall
Stadium with Championship side Huddersfield Town.
The
Terriers led through a 5th minute penalty
Avenue levelled
in the 21st minute when Lewis Rathbone fired home from the edge of the area.

made it 2-1 in the 76th minute when Ryan Cresswell headed home from a corner.
Bradford
looked like they were going to see out the win until the 89th minute when Tim
Akinola struck late on for the visitors seeing honours even.

Hawtin put Southern League Premier Division Central side Banbury United in
front on 77 minutes but the lead was short-lived as just 3 minutes later League
One Oxford United`s development squad equalised to make it 1-1, which was the
score at the end.
Isthmian
Premier side Leatherhead proved too much for Southern Counties East League new boys
Greenwich Borough team at the Mayplace Ground.
John
Ufuah, Jerry Nnamani, Craig McGee and Calvin Ekpiteta scored for Leatherhead
with Greenwich netting just before the break.
Greenwich`s
new league rivals Fisher earned a 1-1 draw with Isthmian South Central side
Barking.
In a
tight game David Olayokun scored the opener with just 8 minutes of the game but
the visitors equalised through Nana Boakye-Yiadom soon after to return home
with the draw.
Southern
Premier Division Central side St Ives Town and Southern Division One Central
hosts Kempston Rovers shared a 3-3 Hillgrounds draw.
The Saints
scorers were Charlie De`Ath, Jake Newman and Robbie Parker, with Harry Stratton,
Ben Shepherd and a De`Ath own goal replying for the Walnut Boys.
St Ives`
league rivals Lowestoft Town won 2-0 at Thurlow Nunn League neighbours Gorleston.
