Benjamin has been with the club on two previous occasions, starting out in Port`s youth section before being signed by Rochdale in July 2009. He then returned to the club, making 23 league starts and 29 substitute appearances between August 2011 and April 2013.

The midfielder left Southport to join league rivals AFC Telford United, also playing for Stockport County and, more recently, BetVictor Northern Premier League Premier Division outfit Warrington Town.

He has re-joined the club and manager Liam Watson told https://southportfc.net: “Russ is a player I’ve had previously and a player I think a lot of. Someone as a person, I know what I’m going to get from him on the pitch and all over in the dressing room. He will be pushing hard for his place and go on to have another good spell at Southport.”

Doyle has featured in all of Port`s pre-season matches having been released from SkyBet Championship side Blackburn Rovers.

Hailing from Liverpool, the 22-year-old spent time on loan with League of Ireland Premier side Derry City in 2018, making 20 appearances, and for then-National League outfit Maidstone United in 2018/19, playing 7 times.

He left Ewood Park having made just one senior appearance in an EFL Trophy tie in 2017.

He has impressed everyone with his no-nonsense style and will be challenging to make the left back berth his own.

Watson added: “Jack is a player we have been chasing all summer. He has had a few options but has chosen to sign for us which I am delighted about.

“We tracked him last year when he was coming back from injury and I feel going forward he will be very beneficial for the football club and beneficial for Jack as he looks to get back up the levels”.
