The Hawks shared a 1-1 draw at Wesleigh Park against much-chanced Welling United, with Roarie Deacon`s 12th minute opener being cancelled out by Adam Coombes just before the break.

Maidstone were beaten 2-1 at the Gallagher Stadium by newly promoted Weymouth, who came back from being a 54th minute Justin Amaluzor goal down to win 2-1, thanks to a Ben Thomson brace on 74 and 88 minutes.

And the Iron suffered a 2-0 defeat at Twerton Park to Bath City, for whom Tom Smith after 47 minutes and Ross Stearn 4 minutes later were on the mark.

The two other newcomers, Dorking Wanderers and Tonbridge Angels, endured mixed fortunes, with Dorking enjoying a great start with a 1-0 win at Arbour Park against Slough Town, courtesy of a last-gasp Matt Briggs effort.

Meanwhile at Longmead, Angels went down to a 2-1 defeat to Dulwich Hamlet with both sides finishing with ten-men.

Hamlet were reduced to ten after just 15 minutes with a straight red card for Quade Taylor, but despite that, David Ijaha put the visitors in front 8 minutes later.

But Angles had keeper Jonathan Henly dismissed after 56 minutes with defender James Folkes donning the gloves. He was immediately beaten by Jeffrey Monakana`s penalty and, although Joe Turner replied from the spot 8 minutes later, Hamlet held firm.

Wealdstone, Hemel Hempstead Town and Chelmsford City all recorded opening day 4-1 home wins.

The Stones beat Dartford at Grosvenor Vale

Late goals from Ross Lafayette – his second after a first half spot-kick - Connor Stevens and a Jedd Smith own goal were the Stones scorers, with Josh Hill having made it 1-1.

Liam Nash with two, Isaac Galliford and Ricky German scored in Hemel`s win at Vauxhall Road against Hungerford Town, whose James Rusby replied, while Tom Wraight helped himself to a hat-trick in Chelmsford`s win over Hampton & Richmond Borough at Melbourne Stadium.

An own goal accounted for City`s other goal, with Tyrone Lewthwaite replying – and the Clarets could even afford to miss a penalty!

Chelmsford`s fancied neighbours Billericay Town started off with a 1-0 New Lodge victory over Eastbourne Borough, courtesy of a stoppage time Jake Robinson effort.

Concord Rangers enjoyed a great start with a 3-0 win at Marsh Lane against Oxford City with Joel Nouble, Kreshnic Krasniqi and Joe Gardner all finding the target.

The day`s other game saw St Albans City and Chippenham Town draw a blank at Clarence Park.
