Heaton,
who is 22, has signed following his release from Scottish Premiership side St
Mirren last month.
He
left Quakers for St Mirren for a fee of £75,000 following the end of the 2017/18 season having made
21 appearances, scoring once, but he played only twice and spent four months on loan with Darlington`s National League North rivals
Kidderminster Harriers last season before returning to Scotland.
Before
joining Darlington for the first time in November 2017, Heaton played for
Droylsden, Stalybridge Celtic, Bamber Bridge and Ramsbottom United after
starting his career with Preston North End.
Manager
Alun Armstrong told https://darlingtonfc.co.uk:
“Josh is different to what we’ve got already, and he’s very aggressive in the
air.
“He’s
still learning his game, and as long as he’s willing to keep learning, we can
make him a better player alongside the other players we’ve got at the club.
“He
gives us the option of playing three centre halves at the back”.
