Coming in as player/assistant-manager is much-travelled 37-year-old midfielder Lee Miveld.
A former Coalville Town captain, Miveld has vast experience at Steps 4 and 5 level.
He joined Hinckley AFC from county rivals Shepshed Dynamo in August 2017.
He spent eight seasons with the Ravens during a successful spell at Owen Street, winning promotion from the Midland Alliance and helping them to an FA Vase Final appearance at Wembley.
His spells at Coalville sandwiched a brief period at Rugby Town, while he also counts Mickleover Sports, Oadby Town, Shepshed Dynamo and Grantham Town among his former clubs.
Melton have also signed defender Edi Appleton from Coventry Sphinx.
Appleton has also served the likes of Quorn, Corby Town, Bedworth United, Rugby Town, Oadby Town, Hyde United, Hinckley United, AFC Rushden & Diamonds and Samut Prakarn in Thailand having started out at West Bromwich Albion, Notts County and Leicester.
Another former Leicester player signing for Melton is winger Levi Porter.
Porter, 31, is a diminutive winger standing at just 5`3”.
He made 39 senior performances for Leicester City, mainly in what is now the Championship, after coming through the Foxes’ youth system. However, in 2007 he had a devastating knee injury playing against Chelsea in a 4-3 defeat in the Carling Cup at the age of 19.
Before he was carried off the field on a stretcher with the knee ligament injury he had played 34 games in the 2006/07 season, scoring 3 goals.
Scans revealed the injury was to his medial collateral ligament and he missed the rest of the season.
Although fully recovered, Porter struggled to get back into the side, going from a bright young talent, who represented England at under-16 and under-17 level, to only playing for the Foxes’ senior side twice after recovering from injury.
He went out on loan to Mansfield Town in 2009 but was released by Leicester.
Since then he has played for Hinckley United, Histon, recently Oadby Town, Blaby & Whetstone, Shepshed Dynamo and Stamford AFC.
Also joining Melton is midfielder Josh Hill from Total Motion Midland League Premier Division neighbours Shepshed Dynamo.
Hill is a 6`3” centre-back who has had a couple of spells in the Midland League with Loughborough University as well as stays at Ilkeston FC, Coalville Town, Worksop Town and then Shepshed`s league rivals and Leicestershire neighbours St Andrews, who he signed for in March 2017.
Goalkeeper Rob Peet has come `home`.
Originally on the books as a youngster with Leicester City and then Grimsby Town, in 2011, Peet went on a week`s trial with Premier League giants Manchester United.
He spent a week at United's Carrington base after Sir Alex Ferguson's scouts recommended him for a trial following an impressive performance playing for Grimsby`s under-18s against Newcastle United in the FA Youth Cup.
That came to nothing in the end, but the Melton-born keeper did later sign a professional contract with Championship side Hull City until the end of the 2011/12 season.
Since then, the 25-year-old has had spells with Ilkeston Town, Hinckley United, Lincoln United, Bardon Hill, Gresley FC and UCL rivals St Andrews. |
