Richards began his career at Bristol Rovers, and represented Wales at under-19 and under-21 level.

After making his way through Rovers’ youth ranks, he made a total of 112 appearances for the senior side, scoring 27 goals in all competitions across both League One and League Two.

After a loan spell at Exeter City, he moved on a permanent deal to Tranmere Rovers and then switched to Cheltenham Town in the summer of 2016.

He had been diagnosed with testicular cancer in March 2015, but astonishingly, after treatment he was given the all clear and wanted to get back playing football as soon as possible.

He was back playing football again in a loan spell at National League South side Bath City, before he made a permanent switch to the MLS with the Tampa Bay Rowdies.

Spells at Weston-super-Mare and Merthyr followed before joining Hereford in November 2017.
