The club have thanked him for all of his hard work and all that he has managed to implement in such a short space of time.

A statement from the club reads: “Will Griffiths’ three objectives when he joined Cheadle just under a year ago were to improve the overall discipline within the squads, develop a culture of positivity and, of course, gain promotion.

“He has done an excellent job with the first two of those objectives and we are disappointed that we couldn’t make progress with the third and continue with the aspirations we have for the club to move up the league pyramid; we need to be winning games and our start to the season has been very disappointing.”

The club are in discussions with several potential successors and hope to have somebody appointed within the next few days.
