Now
43, Hughes was recently released by Southern League Division One Central side
Halesowen Town, who he joined in March 2018.
He
first came to the fore with Kidderminster Harriers where he scored 70 goals in
140 games which earned England semi-pro honours as well as a £200,000 move to
WBA – ironically the club he played for as a youth.
He
scored 79 times in 156 games for Albion and went on to enjoy a career with the
likes of Coventry City, West Brom again, Oldham Athletic, Notts County, Port
Vale, Forest Green Rovers, back at Kiddy, Ilkeston Town, Worcester City, where
he was player-manager for a year, AFC Telford United and Halesowen.
Hughes
scored 13 goals in 51 appearances for the Yeltz - his goals and influence
helped to keep them at Step 3 during the 2017/18 season and had a ten-game
spell as player-manager towards the end of last season, sadly, however, just
one win and four draws were not enough to stave off relegation. |
