Elsdon progressed through the Middlesbrough academy system and earned a full-time deal in the summer of 2015.

Although the 22-year-old did not make a first-team appearance for Boro, he regularly featured in their development squad and in the early part of the 2017/18 season he made 8 appearances in the Scottish Championship for Inverness Caledonian Thistle.

He was released by Boro and Barrow in July 2018. However, he only made 6 appearances in his first season, largely due to injury, and holds the unusual statistic of his first three appearances for the Bluebirds all coming against the same opponent - FC Halifax Town.

Elsdon will be available for the Seasiders’ match against Grantham Town today for what will be his first competitive game for the season.
