Vale
agreed a mutual termination of the players contract earlier this week and Torquay
were quick to take him to Devon.
Whitfield
made 73 appearances for Vale and scored 8 goals over a two-year period.
He
began his career with Guiseley AFC before turning professional with AFC
Bournemouth.
Loan
stints with Kidderminster Harriers and Yeovil Town followed, before a
season-long loan spell with the Valiants during 2017/18 preceded his permanent
move to Vale Park last summer.
The
Gulls have also signed Robbie Cundy on loan from Championship side Bristol City
until January 2020.
The
defender has been recalled from his spell with League Two side Exeter City
following a lack of game time since joining in pre-season amid interest from a
selection of clubs.
City
signed the centre-back in May on a two-year contract, with the option of a
further year.
The
21-year-old arrived from National League South side Bath City, where he played
a vital part in helping the Romans secure a play-off place in 2018/19.
Cundy (pictured) was ever present for the Romans as he made 48 appearances in all competitions
and scored 6 goals.
His
efforts were duly noted as he swept home at the end of season awards, picking
up the supporters’, players’ player and managers` player of the year awards.
City
believe a move to the Gulls will be beneficial for Cundy’s development.
