Freckington was in charge of NPL Premier Division side Matlock Town from September 2018 until the end of last season.

He took over when the club were struggling near the bottom of the table and subsequently helped them move into a superb winning run, which saw the Gladiators lose just once in the period from the beginning of October to New Year.

However, the club’s form dipped in 2019 and it was mutually agreed that a parting of the ways would be beneficial for both parties.

Frecklington has was in charge of Gainsborough Trinity until February 2018 and previously had an impressive spell in charge of Frickley`s league rivals Spalding United and Lincoln United, taking the latter to the NPL South play-offs in 2015/16 but left after their semi-final defeat to Shaw Lane AFC.

He will take charge of training on Thursday and his first game will be against Wisbech Town on Saturday.

Sporting Director Spencer Fearn told the club`s website: “This is a great appointment for our club. Dave has a fantastic track record and had success at Spalding and Lincoln before joining Gainsborough in the National League North where he achieved the objective of keeping the club in the division, whilst also reaching the FA Cup First Round and winning the Lincs Senior Cup.

“He also made a real impact at Matlock when he joined last season, a team in a similar position to ours and put together an outstanding run of results.

“He has an excellent contact base, promotes the youth players if they are ready and has an in-depth knowledge of the league”.
