....Hebburn Town on Saturday – and manager Gary Forrest believes that their success was down to making better decision-making.
An own goal by Hebburn defender Jack Donaghy and a strike by centre-forward Amar Purewal gave West their third quarter-final in seven seasons, and they will now be at home to Chertsey Town from the Cherry Red Records Combined Counties League on 23rd February.
West manager Gary Forrest, who has been to quarter-finals before with Shildon, told Ray Simpson: “I told the lads before the game that these sort of games aren’t won by teams who can run the furthest or who want it more, it’s down to who makes the better decisions on the day, and who plays with their heads and not their hearts.
“I thought that we made the better decisions, and that was the difference between the two sides. I thought Hebburn ran out of ideas in the last 20 minutes. Even though they had ten men, I wasn’t counting my chickens though.
“I thought Amar scored a superb goal, while our midfield three overran theirs.
“We’ll be trying to find out more about Chertsey before we play them”.
