And
they produced a handful of upsets.
BetVictor
Northern Premier League Division One South East club Sutton Coldfield Town held
Vanarama National League North side Kettering Town at Latimer Park last weekend
and managed to complete the shock result on their 3G at Coles Lane on Tuesday
night.
The
Poppies went in front through Gary Stohrer after 11 minutes.
However,
the hosts equalised just before the half-hour mark when Kettering `keeper Paul
White fouled Ed Ahenkorah in the box and Reece Leek scored from the penalty
spot.
And
the Royals grabbed what proved to be the winner 3 minutes before half-time when
Isai Marselia scored from close range.
Northern
Premier League Premier Division outfit Stafford Rangers also completed their upset
with a comprehensive 3-0 win over Kettering`s league rivals Kidderminster
Harriers at Marston Road.
Dan
Burns put Rangers in front after 28 minutes and a Josh Green effort on 42
minutes sent the hosts into the break two-up.
Ashley
Chambers missed a penalty for Kiddy but Jake Charles converted his 3 minutes
from time to make it 3-0.
Sutton
Coldfield`s league rivals Belper Town also caused an upset when they won 1-0 at
NPL Premier Division Witton Albion`s Wincham Park.
However,
it took extra-time to separate the sides, with an unfortunate own goal from Albion`s
James Short 10 minutes into the opening period of overtime proving decisive.
Another
surprise came in Sussex where Isthmian League South East new boys Chichester
City ousted Southern League Premier Division South visitors Hartley Wintney
from the competition.
A
goal 5 minutes into the second period from Jamie Horncastle sealed Chi`s win.
Isthmian
North club Canvey Island also beat a team from a division higher in Southern
Premier Division Central outfit St Ives Town – and this one also went to extra-time.
The
Gulls won 3-2 at the Frost Financial Stadium, taking a 12th minute
lead through Jason Hallett before Jeff Woodward equalised 12 minutes later.
Dylan
Wilson then put Ives in front after 65 minutes, only for Josh Hutchinson to
grab an 83rd minute leveller for the hosts and earn an extra half-hour.
And
Hallett`s second of the night in the 114th minute settled the tie in
Canvey`s favour.
Elsewhere,
in all-National League North replays, Altrincham triumphed 1-0 at the J.Davidson
Stadium against Chester FC.
An
early header from James Jones proved decisive as Alty advanced to face
Halesowen Town in the Third Qualifying Round.
Well-known
cup fighters Blyth Spartans recorded their first win of the season and
progressed after beating Curzon Ashton 1-0.
Michael
Sweet’s 47th minute goal – his first for the club – sent Spartans
through.
King`s
Lynn Town sealed a 2-1 win at The Walks against Alfreton Town.
Shane
Killock headed home from close range following a corner after 52 minutes.
The
lasted only 5 minutes, however, before Adam Marriott levelled things as he
drove the ball home from just inside the area.
Marriott
then turned provider when he set up sub Nathan Fox to fire home the winner with
16 minutes remaining.
Lynn`s
league rivals Leamington avoided a banana skin at NPL Division One South East
side Chasetown – just - winning 2-1 at The Scholars – but again it took
extra-time to settle the tie after the higher level outfit equalised Will
Whieldon`s 42nd minute opener 5 minutes into stoppage time at the
end of the game through Kyle Anderson.
Connor
Taylor then avoided the lottery of penalties by winning it for the Brakes 3
minutes from the end of extra-time.
Two
National League South teams edged through against lower league opposition.
St
Albans City had a relatively comfortable 3-1 win at The Bibby Financial
Services Stadium against Isthmian League Premier Division hosts Worthing.
David
Noble, Joe Iaciofano and Sol Nwabuokei all scored first half goals for the
Saints, with the Rebels netting a 90th minute consolation through
Jalen Jones.
Chippenham
Town, however, were really made to scrap for their win at Hardenhuish Park
against Southern Division One South neighbours Cirencester Town.
Michael
Pook and John Dennis for Ciren and Luke Haines and Karnell Chambers for the
Bluebirds were on target in the opening 90-plus minutes.
Alan
Griffin put the visitors 3-2 up at the start of extra-time, but Tariq Ossai
equalised.
And
then Nat Jarvis scored a spectacular winner for Chippenham with a shot from the
halfway line!
An
all-NPL Division One North West replay saw visiting Colne run out comprehensive
4-0 winners at Ingfield against Ossett United.
Tony
Donaldson and Aiden Chippendale in the first half and Sefton Gonzales and
Connor Hughes in the second sealed the Lancastrians passage.
Combined Counties League Premier Division side Abbey
Rangers won 2-1 at home to Essex Senior Leaguers Walthamstow
Marcus
Cousins and a Brad Sweeney penalty saw Rangers through.
