The 23-year-old son of former manager Martin started his career with Reading and progressed through the ranks to play half-a-dozen first team appearances for the Royals as well as 5 on loan at Scottish side Dundee United and 9 in the Vanarama National League outfit Boreham Wood.

Capped by England at under-19 and under-20 level, after Reading announced that Kuhl would be leaving the club upon the completion of his contract in 2017 he joined Icelandic club Stjarnan on trial at the end of June 2017 before similar stints with Bracknell Town and Aldershot Town.

Whilst on trial with the Shots, Kuhl ruptured his Medial collateral ligament in a friendly against Wycombe Wanderers and has been of the game out since.

Recently appointed Basingstoke boss Dan Brownlie told https://btfc.co.uk: “Aaron came along with Martin Kuhl to a few of our pre-season sessions in a bid to further his fitness levels. Then more recently in the past couple of weeks he has trained with us more regularly and, whilst it was never in doubt, shown his quality.

“I watched Reading under-23’s play Chelsea back in 2014 at the Madejski Stadium and to this date Aaron’s performance remains one of the single most impressive I’ve ever seen live.

“Obviously, he’s had a lengthy lay out through injury and, in truth, a lesser player would have given it in, but his mentality is frightening. Of course, we have to look after him as he’s been out for a significant period, but I have to admit he’s chomping at the bit to get going.’

“There’s always a danger when you take on players from a higher level as to whether they will adopt the same mentality? Apply themselves with the same determination and push themselves? I already know the answer and it’s an unquestionably positive one.

“I’m in no rush to make signings; they have to be right and all things have to be considered – the position, their quality, their personality and how they will fit in with a well-spirited group. Aaron ticks every box and will join an already impressive midfield area”.
