Appointed manager of Brightlingsea Regent in October 2017, Rothery guided the team to safety in their first season at Step 3 level in the Isthmian League Premier Division before masterminding their highest ever finish last term, a creditable 13th spot after fighting for a play-off berth.

Rothery also took the R’s on their best ever cup runs, reaching the third qualifying round of the FA Cup and FA Trophy last season. In the former, he masterminded wins over Cambridge City and Egham Town before bowing out to Torquay United.

After threatening to quit towards the end last term over budget concerns, Rothery committed to another campaign before resigning at the end of September.
