Tinkler made seventeen appearances for the Heed last season while on loan from SkyBet Championship side Middlesbrough and has signed a one-year deal following his release from the Riverside.

The combative Tinkler also made fifteen appearances for North Ferriby United in the second half of the 2016/17 season, scoring 4 goals.

Tinkler, who was a regular in Boro`s under-23 set-up, originally joined up with Gateshead ahead of last season`s kick-off.

Meanwhile, 26-year-old midfielder JJ O'Donnell has signed a new one-year contract.

O'Donnell made 13 appearances for Gateshead last season, returning after two-and-a-half years out with a rare foot condition called sesamoiditis.

After being diagnosed in 2015, O'Donnell had to put his career on hold while he underwent several operations.
