Vernam originally joined the Mariners on a season-long loan deal from Derby County in January 2018, but the loan was cut short by injury and he returned to his parent club.

The 23-year-old striker began his career at Scunthorpe United, making the move to the academy system at Derby in 2013 before signing his first professional contract in 2015.

Vernam has also enjoyed a loan spell in Iceland, where he joined ÍBV in 2016 making a total of 11 appearances, scoring one goal.

He has scored 3 goals in 42 games since making the permanent move to Blundell Park in the summer of 2018. But has made just one league start this season and makes the move to Victory Park looking for game time.
