Last
Saturday, BetVictor Isthmian League Premier Division club Kingstonian produced
a major shock by comprehensively winning 4-0 at the Moss Roae against an albeit
weakened SkyBet League Two Macclesfield Town outfit.
The
K`s won the Trophy in successive seasons (1999 and 2000) and were away at
Southern League Premier Division South side Blackfield & Langley on Wednesday
night and made progress in the competition by a 3-0 scoreline.
It
was Tom Kavanagh who broke the deadlock to give Kingstonian a 56th
minute lead that he doubled himself from the penalty spot 10 minutes later.
One
of the goalscoring heroes from the FA Cup win, Louie Theophanous, bagged the
third in the last minute, having come off the bench.
Isthmian
League North club Maldon & Tiptree arguably caused the biggest upset in the
FA Cup last weekend by winning at League Two Leyton Orient.
And
they caused another shock a little less eye-catching perhaps against Kingstonian`s
league rivals Folkestone Invicta.
The
Jammers ran out winners by the odd goal in seven at the Wallace Binder Ground,
coming back from 2-0 down to goals from Ira Jackson after 10 minutes and Alfie
Paxman on 22 minutes, to lead 4-2 at the break, thanks to a Charlee Hughes
hat-trick and another from Cup hero Jerome Slew.
Invicta
`won` the second half through Kieron McCann with a 63rd minute third,
but the Jammers held firm.
Blackfield
& Langley`s league rivals Hayes & Yeading United had better fortune by
avoiding an upset at the SKYex Community Stadium against Isthmian League North
side Soham Town Rangers.
Hayes,
beaten by League One Oxford United in the FA Cup on Sunday, fell a goal behind
in the 6th minute to a Ryan Auger effort.
Elliott
Buchanan equalised after 23 minutes and 6 minutes into the second half, Ogo Obi
put the home side in front.
However,
an Omar Rowe own goal after 69 minutes pulled Soham level, and it wasn`t until
3 minutes from time that Buchanan bagged his second to restore Hayes &
Yeading`s lead and Hassan Valloh made sure with a fourth in stoppage time.
Tuesday`s
delayed ties saw wins for Coalville Town, Carshalton Athletic, Hastings United
and Sholing, but Barwell and Redditch United and Stourbridge all face replays.
Southern
Premier Division Central outfit Coalville won 1-0 at Northern Premier League
Premier Division side Nantwich Town`s Weaver Stadium, courtesy of a last-gasp
Tim Berridge goal.
Isthmian
League Premier side Carshalton Athletic were 5-3 winners at Colston Avenue
against Southern Division One South outfit Frome Town.
Christie
Pattison and Tommy Bradford both bagged braces for the Robins after Ricky Korboa
had given them a 9th minute lead.
Jon
Davies was Frome`s two-goal man, with Matt Smith sandwiching the other.
The
all-Isthmian League South East tie between Whitehawk and Hastings United saw
the visitors triumph 2-1 at The Enclosed Ground.
United
came back from being a 44th minute Kasper Lopata goal down to win, thanks to a
Davide Rodari brace in the 50th and 70th minutes.
Southern
Division One South side Sholing edged out Southern Division One Central visitors
Barton Rovers 2-1 at the Mackoy Stadium.
The
Boatmen grabbed goals from Jake Hoole after just 5 minutes and Lee Wort after
35 minutes to take a 2-0 lead into the break.
Rovers
made it interesting when they pulled one back in the 65th minute
from the penalty spot, converted by Nathan Tshikuna, but the hosts held firm.
Barwell
and Redditch shared a 3-3 draw at Kirkby Road in a game which only really sprung
into action in the second half with all six goals coming in the final 26
minutes.
Barwell
went 2-0 up only to be pegged back to 2-2 before 2 more late goals were scored
to make it 3-3.
At
the War Memorial Ground, Southern Premier Central side Stourbridge found themselves
2-0 up by the 19th minute, thanks to Anthony Dwyer and Andre Landell
against high-flying Northern Premier League Premier Division Lancaster City.
But
the Dolly Blues earned a second crack at the Glassboys with goals from Rob Wilson
just before the break and Jack Armer 15 minutes from time.
Another
Southern Premier Division South side to avoid an upset were Hartley Wintney,
who were held to a draw by Isthmian League South Central outfit Westfield in
the original tie last weekend.
But
the Hampshire side progressed in Tuesday`s replay, winning 2-1 at the Memorial
Fields with goals from Tyron Smith from the penalty spot after 24 minutes and
Adam Cornell 10 minutes into the second half all after Tinashe Nkoma had given
the Surrey side a 12th minute lead.
Another
replay saw Runcorn Linnets knock out Northern Premier League Division One West
rivals Prescot Cables 2-1 at Valerie Park and with ten-men too.
Paul
Shanley gave the visitors a 18th minute lead but they were stunned
when they had Tom Owens dismissed with a straight red card right on the stroke
of half-time.
That
at least gave Linnets time to adjust and just past the hour-mark, Ryan Gibson
gave the ten-men a 2-0 lead.
James
Edgar`s penalty 5 minutes later gave Cables hope, but the visitors held on for
a good derby win. |
