The
sides shared a 2-2 draw in the original First Round tie at the War Memorial
Ground, and the Glassboys held their higher-level opponents unrtil half-time.
However,
5 minutes after the restart, Sam Smart was hauled down in the area and Scott
Rendell broke the deadlock from the penalty spot to give the Spitfires the lead
– beating `keeper James Wren who had saved a spot-kick from the experienced striker
in the initial tie.
Disaster
struck the visitors on 67 minutes when they were reduced to ten-men after
Jordan Williams brought Danny Hollands` run to a halt with a `professional
foul` and was shown a straight red card.
From
the resulting free kick taken by Charlie Seaman, Smart belted the loose ball
past Wren to double Eastleigh`s lead.
And
12 minutes from time, experienced defender Reda Johnson made it 3-0 from close
range following a corner to put the outcome beyond doubt.
It
was the end of the FA Cup road though for two of Eastleigh`s league rivals,
Wrexham and Bromley.
The
Dragons were beaten 1-0 at Spotland by SkyBet League One side Rochdale.
It
was another tight affair after the sides had shared a 0-0 draw in the original
tie and the only goal of the game came after just 8 minutes when veteran
Republic of Ireland international defender Paul McShane headed home from a corner.
Bromley
looked to have done the hard job in bringing back League One Bristol Rovers to
Hayes Lane for a replay.
However,
an early 3rd minute close range effort from Jonson Clarke-Harris
eventually proved enough to take the Gas through, despite the hosts having two
goals disallowed. |
