Longhurst returned as manager in March 2017 just two weeks after leaving – admitting he made a mistake in becoming a number two.

Longhurst left the Wasps at the beginning of March to take up the vacant assistant-manager role at rivals Hastings United.

However, he decided to quit after less than two weeks and agreed to return to East Grinstead.

A statement on www.egtfc.co.uk reads: “During his four years in the role, Matt guided East Grinstead to our highest position in the club’s history and we are grateful for his undisputed commitment and hard work.

“However, results this season have been disappointing and haven’t met the expectations of either Matt or the club’s committee and it was mutually agreed that a change was needed.

“We wish Matt all the best for the future.”

Assistant-manager Grant Hearn and club captain Drew Cooney have been asked to look after the team tomorrow when the Wasps play Three Bridges and for next Tuesday’s game against Whitehawk.
