....Chorley and his resolve to build a winning side with a certain style and deep connection between team and fans.

The 36-year-old returned to Victory Park during the 2010/11 season and has been heavily involved in the club’s successes since, first as a player, then as a coach after retiring early due to injury, before spending the last three seasons as assistant-manager, working closely with Matt Jansen and Jonathan Smith behind the scenes, reaching the play-offs in two consecutive years.

He’s hoping to go one better this time around. Talking exclusively to chorleyfc.com, the new manager spoke of his gratitude towards Matt Jansen, pride at taking the role and his ambitions to continue pushing the club forward: “I’m absolutely delighted and it’s a very proud moment for me.

“After talking to Matt and him wishing me all the best I couldn’t wait to get going. Over the three years, we’ve continued our development in the National League North and improved every season. We worked well together but Janny felt he need to move on and I wish him all the best for the future and we’ll definitely stay in touch.

“The way it’s come about wasn’t ideal but it’s an opportunity I couldn’t turn down - Janny appreciates that. This is an amazing club, built on tradition and the Board of Directors know what they’re getting with me. Goals for the season are very simple. There’s no point in playing football if you don’t want to win. We’ll win and lose gracefully. At the start of the new 2018/19 campaign, our mindset is to win the league and to perform to the best of our ability. I’m focussed, driven and will do everything to make sure we get the best possible chance for promotion.

“It’s no secret I’ve commitments elsewhere being a head teacher, but at the same time, I’ll give everything to the job. It is a part-time role, with a full-time expectation and is something I’m going to relish.

“The club is huge and it’s vital we have everyone’s support. People come and watch us because they want success and want to support their home-town club. Ultimately it comes down to watching a team that is playing attractive football and winning games. As a club, that’s what we’ll all be aiming to do. We want the fans to know we’ll be giving it absolutely everything, along with Jonathan Smith (assistant manager) and other people who’ll be coming in. I just ask that fans are not personal. Football is a game of opinions and I haven’t a problem with those who are critical; that’s good along with making mistakes because you learn from it, but I want everyone on side and we are here, for one thing, to build and achieve success at Chorley Football Club.”

Also talking to the club website, chairman Ken Wright was as equally enthused by what Jamie brings to the table: “Jamie was a popular player and I’m sure he’ll be just the same as a manager. He’s young, experienced and his knowledge of non-league football is second to none,” he said. “Since joining as assistant manager he has proved he wants to work with young players, make them better and help develop for the future. His vision in football and the way he is thinking about Chorley Football Club is what we want.

“He wants to structure a team and has proved already his capabilities, with the research he completes before every single match. That’s been huge to our success on the pitch over recent seasons. He’s an open guy who wants to work together with good staff at Victory Park, in an environment which is conducive to building something strong”.
