A former fan favourite, Ali originally joined the Yeltz in 2018 from Bromsgrove Sporting and scored 4 goals in 21 appearances.

The 29-year-old left Halesowen in October 2018 to re-join Redditch United under Smith before jetting off to Qatar to play for Pearl FC.

Capped six times by Somalia – the last being as recent as September 2019 when he captained the side in a 1–0 win against Zimbabwe, marking Somalia's first ever FIFA World Cup qualification victory – he started out in Dutch football with Alphense Boys, Jong ADO Den Haag and CVV de Jodan Boys.

He moved to England with his family in 2013 and from October 2015 to February 2016, he played for Northwich Victoria and Sheffield FC.

He then joined Bromsgrove Sporting for the first time before signing for Redditch in November 2016.

In January 2017 he returned to Sporting and just over year later he signed for Halesowen.

Smith told https://www.ht-fc.co.uk: “Ahmed is a fantastic footballer who I have worked with on numerous occasions before he went to Qatar. As soon as he made me aware he was returning, it made perfect sense to bring him in on the back of losing Reece Hewitt.

“It's one thing signing players when you are struggling. It's another when you can add a player of Ahmed's quality to an already impressive squad who are flying. He will improve us again”.
