The
22-year-old signed for Blyth in late August 2019 and his 17 goals have been the
shining light as they’ve struggled in the league this season to date.
Roberts
joined Newcastle United`s academy at the age of 8 and moved up through every
age group and represented England at under-20 level.
In
January 2015, he made his first team debut during an Emirates FA Cup Third
Round defeat to Leicester City as a second half sub.
Soon
after his senior bow, he had a brief loan spell at Gateshead before returning
to Newcastle to become a leading player in the under-23 set-up.
He
then furthered his senior education when current Blyth manager Lee Clark took
him north of the border to Kilmarnock on loan in 2017.
And
after a string of stand-out performances in the under-23s run to the quarter finals
of the Checkatrade Trophy, he was handed his second first team chance, which
would prove to be an extra memorable occasion.
In
an FA Cup Third Round replay at Ewood Park in January against Blackburn, he
netted his first-ever senior goal in front of the BT Sport cameras.
A short loan spell at
League Two outfit Colchester United followed before leaving the Magpies in the
summer of 2019 after 14 years at St James`s Park |
