....resigned from his
position at the helm of our local rivals alongside assistant coach Joe Davies
last week due to ‘personal circumstances’.
Millers`
manager Craig Dore was keen to snap up McCalmon for his coaching excellence and
knowledge of the level.
McCalmon
has been a massive part of Kidlington’s recent history, starting as their
assistant-manager and helping the side win the Uhlsport Hellenic League Premier
Division title in 2016.
Promotion
to the Southern League Division One Central saw them play at Step 4 football
for the first time in the club’s 110-year history.
He
then took over as manager and saw the club finished a very respectable 12th in
their first season.
He
has since been in charge of over 150 matches over the last four seasons for the
Oxfordshire side.
Taking
a short break at the start of the 2018/19 season, he became manager at Abingdon
Town who, at the time, had plans on restoring some of the club’s former glory
and one-day gain promotion to the top of the non-League pyramid.
Replacement
manager Ady Fuller then took the helm at the Greens but after just a single win
from his first 10 games in charge, resigned with immediate effect.
McCalmon
was brought back in to manage the side and successfully steered them clear of
relegation -a feat that seemed almost impossible when they lost 11-0 to
Bromsgrove Sporting near the beginning of the season.
And
McCalmon`s influence must have helped in North Leigh signing experienced
midfielder Lewis Gabbidon from his former club, Kidlington.
The
30-year-old returned to Kidlington in December 2018 after starting the season
with Banbury United.
He
controls the midfield area where he is strong on the ground and tough the air.
As
well as Kidlington, he has also had spells with Marlow, Oxford City and
Thatcham Town.
He
has made 18 league appearances so far this season and will no doubt be a
massive boost to North Leigh’s play-off challenge.
