....has signed Alex Davey and brought fellow defender Gavin Hoyte back to Victoria Road.

Davey joins the Daggers on a one-year contract.

The 23-year-old centre-back started his career at Chelsea’s academy at the age of 10 and progressed through the ranks to sign his first professional contract in 2012.

He made seven appearances for Scotland at under-19 level, scoring once.

Davey has had loan spells at Scunthorpe United, Peterborough United and Crawley Town, and in between his spells at Peterborough and Crawley, he spent a year with Norwegian side Stabæk.

He moved to Cheltenham Town in 2017 and spent time on loan in the National League with Torquay United.

He joined the Daggers` league rivals Boreham Wood in January 2018 from the Robins.

Peter Taylor told www.daggers.co.uk: “I’m very happy to have him, and I think he is a great age, 23. He has had some games in the National League before.

“Alex has had a very good grounding at Chelsea, so he has been brought up the right way. Good size, good pace and a good professional and we are pleased to have him.”

Experienced defender Hoyte has also joined on a one-year contract.

The 28-year-old played for the Daggers during the 2012/13 and 2013/14 seasons where he made 68 appearances.

In the summer of 2014, he signed for Gillingham where he played under Taylor.

Hoyte spent last season with National League rivals Eastleigh where he made a total of 45 appearances.

Taylor added: “Gavin is someone I know. I took him to Gillingham, so I know him very well.

“At 28 years of age, he has played a lot of football so has got some good experience. He can play in three or four different positions and he is the type of player that we need in our situation. We need somebody with a bit more experience and somebody that can cover gaps for us.

“He is a very good professional and I am asking him to be a bit more vocal than what he would probably be in his career. I am delighted to have him, and he is the type that we are going to need”.
