Altrincham
have signed Craig Mahon as part of a deal that has seen John Johnston move to
the Chester Swansway Stadium along with a substantial fee.
Altrincham
received a bid from Chester that triggered a clause in the player’s contract
that enabled bosses Anthony Johnson and Bernard Morley to speak to him.
The
25-year-old is a skillful and pacey winger who signed for Altrincham in May 2017
from Nantwich Town and quickly established himself as a fan favourite.
Known
for his impressive runs down the wing, he was a key part of the attacking team
that won the Northern Premier League in 2017/18, scoring 20 goals in all
competitions in his first season.
He
began his career with Kidsgrove Athletic before making the move to Leek Town.
His
performances for Leek were so impressive that he earned himself a move to Crewe
Alexandra, from where he went out on loan to Leek, Alfreton Town and Salford
City, before he signed for the Ammies on a permanent basis.
He
later spent time on loan at Nantwich before making that move more permanent in
2016.
Mahon (pictured signing) is an experienced 30-year-old midfielder who joined Chester from Vauxhall
Motors in May 2013 after being player of the year at the Rivacre Park club in
2013.
He
started his career at Wigan Athletic before signing for Salford City in 2009
where he featured 24 times, scoring 8 goals.
Vauxhall
Motors then came calling where he completed 117 appearances and scoring 7
times.
It
wasn’t long before he was making his mark for Chester, chipping in with some
crucial goals and some tantalising performances and in September 2017 he became
the Blues all-time appearances record holder – surpassing George Horan’s 159
games in the Blue and White of Chester. |
