As Newark Flowserve added the Senior Cup to their Premier Division title and Woodthorpe Park Rangers took home the Junior Cup to complement their Division Two title. Newark won the Senior Cup by seeing off Basford United Community 4-0. Elliott King got the ball rolling on 16 minutes as he converted a penalty after Daryl Price was felled by Jake Wood in the Basford goal. King got his and Newark’s second in the 37th minute when he fired into the bottom corner from just outside the box. Newark hit the crossbar in the dying moments of the first half so it remained 2-0 at the break. After a quarter of an hour of the second period Price had a shot saved but Michael Attard pounced on the rebound to slot home and make it 3-0. King then completed his hat-trick with five minutes remaining as he turned his marker in the box and slammed the ball into the roof of the net. Woodthorpe Park Rangers were 3-2 winners against Burton Joyce with all the goals coming in the first half. Markell Bailey struck early for Woodthorpe with a back post header and, when Kieron Wheat made it 2-0 on 15 minutes it looked like there would be only one winner. BJ had other ideas, however, and they got themselves back into it five minutes later with a Jack Hopper header. Bailey gave Woodthorpe breathing space with his second on 39 minutes and it was much needed as only three minutes later Ricky Garner turned the ball into the net for Burton Joyce following good work down the right by Mark Faflik. In the second half Simon Hill had the ball in the net for BJ but it was correctly ruled out for offside and Bailey struck the crossbar with a free-kick but 3-2 it remained. Elsewhere, in the Premier Division, Bilborough Town condemned Ruddington Village to finish in last place with a 3-2 win at Gedling Southbank. Underwood Villa made themselves safe from relegation with a 2-1 win over Magdala Amateurs and Kimberley Miners Welfare AFC ended Bingham Town’s hopes of finishing in the top three by beating them 4-1. In Division One, Ashland Rovers claimed the runners up spot with a 4-1 win at Netherfield Albion. Keyworth United Reserves nudged Netherfield down into fourth place with a 3-2 win at Selston Reserves and Southwell City Reserves won by a similar scoreline at Awsworth Villa Reserves. - nottsseniorleague.weebly.com |
