Born in Sedgefield, Jones was involved with the youth systems at Sunderland and then Hartlepool United before signing a full professional deal with Pools in the summer of 2013.

Over the next three years he made 41 appearances before being released in the summer of 2016 and joining Grimsby Town.

He did not immediately claim a first team place with the Mariners and in late 2016 he had a 5-game loan spell in the National League with Gateshead and then early 2017 had a 5-game spell on loan to AFC Fylde, then in the National League North.

He made 5 appearances for the Mariners before being released in the summer 2017 and joining Barrow and became a key player for the Bluebirds over two seasons.

He left for Salford last summer and re-joins ahead of the crucial National League run in, as Barrow look to seal promotion to the Football League.
