A
fine gesture by the Concord chairman to pay for a couple of Royston supporters`
coaches after the disappointment of last Saturday`s late postponement meant
there was a good crowd at the Aspect Arena.
And
they saw the Beachboys take a 35th minute lead through Joel Nouble.
But
shortly afterwards, the Crows had a great chance to equalise when Adam Murray
was tugged back and a penalty was awarded.
However,
home `keeper Chris Haigh pulled off a fine save to deny Matt Bateman from 12
yards.
Nine
minutes after half-time though, Royston were level when Josh Castiglione set up
Luke Warner-Eley to beat Haigh with a fine low shot.
Haigh
was forced into a couple more saves to keep the scoreline level and it finished
1-1 at the end of normal time, so it was extra-time.
The
crowd only had to wait 3 minutes into extra-time for the next goal to arrive –
and it came from Rangers` sub Decarrey Sheriff with his first touch of the
ball.
Concord
held firm for the remainder of the 120 minutes to make it through to the
semi-finals where they will meet another Southern League giantkiller, Division
One Central outfit Halesowen Town.
The
journey is over for Royston, who can now concentrate all their efforts on a
promotion bid, but they have been a real credit to the league with a fantastic
run in the competition. |
