Smith, who has made 9 appearances so far this season for Rovers, put pen-to-paper today to confirm his second loan spell of 2019/20 with the Glovers.

The 27-year-old, born in Sunderland, started his career at Middlesbrough before joining Leicester City in 2010.

He spent time on loan as a back-up keeper at both Chesterfield and Lincoln City before making his senior debut during a loan spell at Nuneaton Borough where he went on to play seven times.

In April 2014, Smith made a move as an emergency loan to Cambridge United where he made his debut the following day.

He continued to hold the number one spot for the U’s, starring in the play-off semi-finals against Halifax Town before helping his side earn promotion to League Two with a victory at Wembley.

He returned to Leicester later that year, signing a new two-year deal, before appearing on the bench in nine Premier League games during an injury to Kasper Schmeichel.

In June 2015, Smith signed for Northampton Town in League Two and after a successful season he helped them win the league and earn promotion to League One, winning goalkeeper of the year, players` player of the year and earning a place in the League Two team of the season.

Following a spell at Bristol Rovers, he was released at the end of the 2018/19 season, signing for Forest Green in June 2019.
