McDonald is a pacey striker who began as a youth teamer at Notts County, before spells with Alfreton Town and then Rainworth Miners Welfare, Carlton Town, Worksop Town and Matlock Town – netting over 100 goals for those four clubs between 2008 and 2013.
He has also played for King's Lynn Town, Mickleover Sports, Rushall Olympic, Bradford Park Avenue and then joined Coalville Town in the summer of 2016, but last season, struggled to find the net and spent time out on loan with Stafford Rangers.
Twenty-seven-year-old McDonald is also an international footballer having been capped twice by Montserrat.
Barwell also confirmed that young duo Caine Keeling-Treasure and Jai Rowe have agreed to join the club.
Both have been at Nuneaton Griff with Rowe having also played at Atherstone Town and both are currently second-year scholars at Rugby Town`s academy.
