Highly rated young defender Liam Bennett has had a whirlwind few days.

Just on Friday, the 18-year-old left Isthmian League North side AFC Sudbury to join Cambridge.

The talented full-back, who was previously part of the academy at Colchester United, made a big impression since linking up with Sudbury ahead of the start of last season.

A number of Football League clubs have been credited with an interest in Bennett over recent months, and Cambridge have won the race for his services.

As part of the deal, Bennett has initially be loaned to St Neots but will continue his education with AFC Sudbury and he is still permitted to play for their academy in their upcoming semi-final of the National Colleges Cup.
