The 28-year-old had only joined Clitheroe in February from JD Cymru Premier side Newtown AFC.

He started out at Liverpool as a youngster, before turning out for Stockport County, Marine AFC and Northwich Victoria.

He first moves to Wales with Colwyn Bay in July 2015 and his no-nonsense defending saw him made captain of the Seagulls.

He moved to Bangor City during the summer of 2018 and quickly emerged as one of the best players at his position anywhere in the Huws Gray Alliance.

This caught the attention of a host of clubs in the region, with Barnes opting to test his skills in the Welsh Premier with Newton in the summer of 2019.
