The
former Coventry City player was highly praised by then-Sky Blues manager Tony
Mowbray when he said that he had the potential to become an Iconic warrior
figure, before a serious injury ended his time at the club.
Still
only 24, Lawton signed for BetVictor Southern League Premier Division Central side
Alvechurch in October 2019 from league rivals Stratford Town.
He
was a young professional at Coventry from the age of 7 to 21 and was a
full-time pro for three of those years and also had a loan spell with
neighbours Nuneaton Town at the start of the 2015/16 season.
An
injury playing for City under-23's ultimately led to him not being offered a
new deal in 2016/17 and he went to Scotland trying to earn a deal there but was
unsuccessful and returned to Coventry, where he trained with a number of local
clubs before signing for Halesowen Town in November 2017.
He
signed for Stratford in July and skippered the side initially.
New
Racing Club manager Jason Pyott told his club`s website: “I would like to take
this chance to welcome Ivor to the club as assistant-manager and player. I am
very pleased that he has committed to the management team and I look forward to
start working with him and the other staff and players for the season ahead.”
Lawton
said: “I am very excited to be joining Racing Club Warwick. After speaking with
the gaffer, the club has big plans for the season ahead and I’m looking forward
to getting started”.
